A Saturday’s rough shooting for two guns on the Gisborough Estate together with a day’s fishing for two rods on Priory Pond. The rough shooting is part of the syndicate shoot and an 80+ bird day can be expected, but the earlier in the season, the better the bag. Dogs are welcome. Also included is the opportunity for two rods to fish for one day on Priory Pond, a restored monk’s pond that was previously part of the Gisborough Priory. The recently established course fishery offers anglers the chance to catch Bream, Roach, Carp and Tench.

Guns must stay Friday night at the Gisborough Hall Hotel at the discounted rate of £55 per person bed & breakfast, based on two people sharing a twin or double room (an extra charge will be made if separate rooms are required). Guests may choose to stay on for a second night at the Hotel. Originally built in 1857, Gisborough Hall Hotel opened its doors to guests in 2002 after being carefully transformed into a 71 room, luxury, 4-star hotel. A morning/evening Muntjac Stalk with 1 Rifle on the West Wycombe Estate, Buckinghamshire (30 miles from London). It will be accompanied by an Estate Keeper (a tip is suggested) and can get the use of an Estate Rifle if buyer does not have their own. Buyer gets to keep carcass.

West Wycombe Estate extends to some 5,000 acres and the shoot is managed by Sir Edward Dashwood, Bt, an extremely keen shot himself. Sir Edward Dashwood 12th Bt currently resides at West Wycombe Park with his wife and family. West Wycombe Estate is consistently referred to as one of the finest shoots in the Country. Today the shoot still ranks amongst the best, and is regularly in the Field’s list of Top Shoots. Certainly it is probably the closest really good shoot to London. The house today is frequently featured in screen adaptations of literary classics such as Cranford and Little Dorrit and more recently in the television series, Downton Abbey. Other films include W.E., The Importance of being Earnest, I Capture the Castle, The Lost Prince and He Knew He was Right.

Tweedhill is the bottom beat on the Scottish side of the river and excels in low water conditions when higher beats on the river are having a lean time. The beat description can be found on the fishpal website for Tweed with full details of past catches, pool descriptions etc. The successful bidder will be bound by Tweed regulations as well as the beat conditions which are set out on the website.

Birgham Dub consists of 1 mile of double bank fishing and is a 2 rod, 2 boat beat, with two full time boatmen. The Dub has a wide variety of pools and streams for both high and low water conditions. Not only the Dub with its pools named the Corbie, Cundy, Galoshan Point, Hens Leg and the Nick; but also (above and below) are the streaming waters known as the Brose, Magrie, the Cradle, the Weil and Jilly’s Cast. The beat is very well maintained, with an excellent fishing hut and other facilities. Birgham Dub is owned by Douglas & Angus Estates and forms part of the Hirsle Estate at Coldstream.

The Dartmoor Fishery is an excellent choice for anglers seeking wilderness fishing for wild brown trout and is Fly Only. Fishing on Dartmoor extends to some 26 miles and the East and West Dart and their tributaries really epitomise ‘wild fishing in wild places’. The River Dart and its tributaries are some of the wildest and most pristine environments in the UK. The West Dart flows through one of the most beautiful valleys on Dartmoor. The East Dart is set amongst beautiful moorland, and good sport can be had right up to its headwaters. One day’s fishing for 2 rods on one of the private Castle Beats at Drumlanrig. Drumlanrig Fishings cover a stretch of the River Nith, which is the largest river in Dumfries & Galloway, and one of its tributaries, the River Scaur, to give a total of 10.5 miles of fishing.  Within that there are two beats on the River Nith where fishing is more exclusive and restricted to a maximum of 5 rods at one time.  These beats are referred to as the Lower Castle Beat and the Middle Castle Beat and contain both low and high water pools.  These beats are located within the grounds of the Estate with Drumlanrig Castle as a backdrop.

Two days' salmon fishing for two rods on the River Ettrick, a tributary of the River Tweed and can be fished from the bank or by wading. This Lot was won in 2014 by Heather Trust Project Manager, Patrick Laurie, who enjoyed fishing in beautiful surroundings near the historic town of Selkirk. Many fish were seen in early November, including some spectacular leaping at the specially designed weir at Philiphaugh.

One day’s fishing for 2 rods on the Woodend Beat of the River Dee. The Woodend beat of the famous River Dee is in the heart of Royal Deeside and is situated about 4 miles west of the popular small town of Banchory. The beat, which fishes two rods, is just over a mile long on the north bank and consists of 11 named pools, including the Moral Pool described by John Ashley Cooper as one of the most famous pools on the Dee. The beat is accessible by car as there is a rough track which runs the full length. There is also a secure rod room in which to store fishing equipment.

Accommodation may also be available in Woodend House (at extra cost) depending on the date taken.

Spring is the best time to see wildlife in the hills, and the management undertaken for grouse shooting at Garrows estate has created a fantastic environment for a whole host of breeding birds and mammals. Enjoy close encounters with breeding curlews, oystercatchers and lapwings from the keeper’s vehicle without disturbing the birds, taking front row seats for a really stunning natural spectacle.

There are a growing number of active black grouse leks on the estate, and mountain hares and red grouse can be seen at amazingly close quarters. Lucky visitors might be in for a chance of meeting the famous “Jock” – a grouse who earned himself celebrity status in the national press last year for his fearlessness. Jock is totally undaunted by human beings, and he stands proudly at his post for photographs like a true star.

This is an exciting chance to visit England’s most southerly grouse moor and see “behind the scenes” on a wildlife safari with Richard Bailey, the experienced gamekeeper.

Spring is the best time to see wildlife in the hills, and the management undertaken for grouse shooting at Crag Estate has created a fantastic environment for a whole host of breeding birds.

Crag Estate is run on a “no burn” policy, relying on innovative cutting techniques to deliver a shootable surplus of grouse in an area with very high levels of public access. Weather dependent, winning bidders will enjoy close encounters with broods of grouse and waders from the keeper’s vehicle without disturbing the birds, taking front row seats for a really stunning natural spectacle.

This is an excellent opportunity for one person to experience a day’s haaf-netting on the River Nith at Glencaple.

This unique form of fishing dates back to the Vikings, the word haaf coming from the Norwegian word for heave. The 15 ft net, standing like a small goalpost on three legs, is carried into the river and is supported by the fisherman. The haaf-netters stand in a line with their nets across the estuary and catch fish coming up on the flood tide and down on the ebb tide. The fishing at Caerlaverock has been kept historically by the owners for the benefit of the Estate workers and local villagers. The successful bidder will fish with Johnny, under the guidance of the Caerlaverock Keeper, on the flood and ebb tides. Johnny Scott wrote and co-presented the successful BBC TV series, Clarissa and The Countryman.

Lunch will be provided. A pair of chest waders is essential. Fishing will be catch and release, in line with conservation regulations.
