Presented by The Rt Hon the Lord Gisborough:

Bid for your chance to enjoy a Saturday’s rough shooting for two guns on the Gisborough Estate together with a day’s fishing for two rods on Priory Pond.

The rough shooting is part of the syndicate shoot and an 80+ bird day can be expected, but the earlier in the season, the better the bag. Dogs are welcome.

Guns must stay Friday night at the Gisborough Hall Hotel at the discounted rate of £55 per person bed & breakfast, based on two people sharing a twin or double room (an extra charge will be made if separate rooms are required).

Guests may choose to stay on for a second night at the Hotel. Originally built in 1857, Gisborough Hall Hotel opened its doors to guests in 2002 after being carefully transformed into a 71 room, luxury, 4-star hotel.

Early booking is recommended to ensure the hotel can accommodate you on the dates you wish.

To be taken from the first Saturday in December 2020 – end January 2021, by arrangement with the Estate’s Gamekeeper, Mark Sunley and the Gisborough Hall Hotel.

Lot 4.1: A day’s haaf-netting with Sir Johnny Scott on the River Nith at Glencaple, in Dumfriesshire

Preview image
Final bid:
£310
Increment:£10
Bids:5
Ends in:08 May 2020 12:00:00 BST (bidding ended)

Presented by Sir John Scott, by kind permission of Lady Clare Hurd:

This is an excellent opportunity for one person to experience a day’s haaf-netting on the River Nith at Glencaple. This unique form of fishing dates back to the Vikings, the word haaf coming from the Norwegian word for heave. The 15 ft net, standing like a small goalpost on three legs, is carried into the river and is supported by the fisherman. The haaf-netters stand in a line with their nets across the estuary and catch fish coming up on the flood tide and down on the ebb tide. The fishing at Caerlaverock has been kept historically by the owners for the benefit of the Estate workers and local villagers.

The successful bidder will fish with Johnny, under the guidance of the Caerlaverock Keeper, on the flood and ebb tides. Johnny Scott wrote and co-presented the successful BBC TV series, Clarissa and The Countryman. Lunch will be provided. A pair of chest waders is essential.

Fishing will be catch and release, in line with conservation regulations.

To be taken in the summer months of 2020 between June and August, by arrangement.

Lot 4.3: Salmon Fishing on the Shee Water, Perthshire

Final bid:
£210
Increment:£10
Bids:12
Ends in:08 May 2020 12:00:00 BST (bidding ended)

Presented by Finegand Estate Ltd:

An excellent opportunity for two rods to try this small but easily fished river in beautiful scenery.  This is fly only, and fishes well from June onward.

Each beat is approximately 1½ miles long.  Although it is definitely classed as a spate river, fish can be caught in all waters.

The Shee Water, which is the head waters of the river Ericht and a tributary of the Tay, provides exciting salmon fishing, where sport can be expected to come thick and fast.  It can be extremely prolific – fishing well late in the season.

This has always proved to be a popular lot with our bidders.

To be taken on a mutually agreed day before the 31 st August 2020.

The donor can also provide the successful bidder with a list of local accommodation.
